Dispute Resolution

How to report a problem and what happens next.

1. Motohive's Role

Motohive is an intermediary marketplace — we connect buyers and sellers, but we are not a party to any transaction. We do not hold funds, set prices, inspect vehicles, or guarantee the accuracy of listings. This means we cannot force a seller to refund a buyer, or compel either party to complete a sale.

However, we take the safety and integrity of our platform seriously. We will investigate reports of policy violations and take action against accounts that breach our Terms of Use.

2. What We Can Help With

Fraudulent or misleading listings (false description, clocked mileage, hidden write-off)

Sellers misrepresenting themselves as private individuals when they are motor traders (curbstoning)

Scam listings (advance-fee fraud, non-existent vehicles)

Listings that violate our prohibited content policy (stolen vehicles, etc.)

Abusive or harassing behaviour through our messaging system

Accounts impersonating legitimate dealers

3. What We Cannot Help With

Disputes about the condition of a vehicle, agreed price, or post-sale defects are private matters between buyer and seller. We cannot:

Recover money paid to a seller

Enforce a refund or exchange

Act as an arbitrator in a civil dispute

Compel a seller to respond to your messages

For these matters, you may need to seek independent legal advice or contact a relevant external body (see Section 5 below).

4. How to Report a Problem

You can report a listing or user directly from the listing page using the 'Report listing' button.

Alternatively, email us at support@motohive.ie with as much detail as possible:

The listing URL or car ID

Your account email address

A clear description of the issue

Any supporting evidence (screenshots, messages, receipts)

We aim to acknowledge all reports within 2 business days. Where we find a breach of our Terms of Use, we will take appropriate action — which may include removing the listing, suspending the account, or referring the matter to An Garda Síochána or the CCPC.

5. External Bodies

Depending on the nature of your issue, the following organisations may be able to help:

Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC)

The CCPC handles complaints about traders who breach consumer law — including misrepresentation, unfair commercial practices, and failure to honour statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2022.
Web: ccpc.ie  ·  Phone: 1800 800 000

An Garda Síochána

If you believe you have been the victim of fraud — including advance-fee scams, theft, or sale of a stolen vehicle — report it to your local Garda station or online at garda.ie.

Small Claims Court

The Small Claims procedure allows consumers to resolve disputes with traders for amounts up to €2,000 without a solicitor. Claims can be filed online at courts.ie/small-claims. The filing fee is €25.

Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI)

If your dispute involves a SIMI-affiliated dealer, SIMI offers a conciliation service.
Web: simi.ie  ·  Phone: (01) 676 1690
